Day 1: Arrival in Madrid, Spain
Arrive in Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spain. After check-in, enjoy an orientation session introducing the program’s educational focus and cultural goals. Spend the evening on a guided walking tour of the city’s historic center, exploring iconic landmarks like Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, and the Royal Palace. Students will get their first taste of Spain’s dynamic atmosphere, preparing them for the days ahead.
Day 2: University Visit & Exploring Madrid’s Rich History
Begin the day with a visit to one of Madrid’s prestigious universities. Students will interact with faculty and local students to understand Spain’s higher education system, fostering a cross-cultural academic exchange. In the afternoon, explore the cultural side of Madrid with a visit to the famous Prado Museum, home to world-renowned masterpieces by Spanish artists like Goya and Velázquez. The day concludes with a stroll through Retiro Park and discussions about Spain’s contributions to global art and education.
Day 3: Toledo – A Day Trip into Spain’s Medieval Past
Travel to Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and immerse yourself in Spain’s medieval history. Visit the Toledo Cathedral, Alcázar Fortress, and stroll through the winding streets filled with rich cultural heritage. This excursion allows students to explore Spain’s historical importance and its blend of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions. Return to Madrid for the night.
Day 4: Flight to Lisbon, Portugal & Cultural Exploration
Fly to Lisbon, Portugal’s charismatic capital. Upon arrival, explore the vibrant Belém district, where students will learn about Portugal’s Age of Discoveries and visit the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery. The day ends with a traditional Portuguese dinner and cultural immersion through a Fado music performance, introducing students to Portugal’s soulful traditions.
Day 5: School Visit & Cultural Insights in Lisbon
Start the day with a visit to a partner school in Lisbon. Students will engage in a day of academic exchange, participating in discussions, and collaborating with Portuguese students. This is an enriching opportunity to learn about the education system, teaching methodologies, and student life in Portugal. In the afternoon, visit the Lisbon Oceanarium, one of the largest in Europe, and explore its educational exhibits on marine biodiversity.
Day 6: Sintra & Cascais – Discovering Portugal’s Natural Beauty
Embark on a scenic excursion to the enchanting town of Sintra, known for its stunning palaces and gardens. Visit the Pena Palace and learn about Portugal's royal history. Continue to the coastal town of Cascais, where students will explore the scenic beaches and take part in outdoor sports activities, such as surfing or beach volleyball, blending Portugal’s natural beauty with its sports culture. Return to Lisbon for the final evening.
Day 7: Departure from Lisbon
After breakfast, enjoy a reflective session where students can discuss what they have learned during the trip. Take time for any last-minute sightseeing or shopping in Lisbon before heading to the airport for the flight home.
